Chalene created PiYo over 10 years ago for herself – she felt anxious with the slow pace of yoga and pilates classes and still felt like she had to go do another workout afterward. Yet she knew she needed to improve her flexibility…almost force herself into it! She wanted flexibility, strength and cardio all in one. Inspired by a Cirque de Soleil performer’s physique and workout style Chalene designed PiYo classes, which have been taught in fitness centers since. With her busy schedule Chalene eventually took PiYo off her own personal workout routine…and low and behold she spent months battling various injuries. A kinesiologist informed her that she lacked flexibility – oops! – so she realized she needed to reincorporate her PiYo sessions. After experiencing her body before and after PiYo (twice!) Chalene decided to develop it into a comprehensive system to share with us!
In creating the DVD program Chalene changed the PiYo workouts to be even more dynamic so she (and all of us!) could gain flexibility, strength and cardio without going high impact…without beating up our bodies.
